The Spaceships VIP winner of our Goodwood Festival of Speed competition enjoyed the experience of a lifetime.
James Harrup was the lucky winner of our free competition to win a 3 day VIP Campervan trip to the Goodwood Festival of Speed as the guest of our event partner, VrDMotorsport.
The Festival of Speed launched our partnership with VrDMotorsport, who used a Spaceships 7-berth Adria family motorhome and custom-made Ford Voyager 4-berth campervan as their base for the event. They also helped to create a once in a lifetime experience for James and his wife, Jessica, our competition winners.
The competition was free to enter and simple. All you had to do was to follow, like or share our posts on any of our social media channels. James was picked at random and won the Spaceships VW Delta custom-made campervan for a 3 day visit and admission to the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
They joined up with Team VrDMotorsport, pitching their Spaceships campervan in the rally paddock. They enjoyed VIP transport around the Goodwood Estate in the VrDMotorsport 4x4 and even got access to the private balcony at Goodwood House for an exclusive viewing of the iconic hill climb event.
The highlight of the visit was definitely being the co-driver on a flying race lap of the rally stage in Team VrD's 1981 Rheila Golf rally car, sponsored by Spaceships UK. The high speed thrill of tearing through the forest on the Goodwood Estate was a once in a lifetime experience for James. "We had an absolutely amazing time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, he said. "Just want to say a massive thank you to Spaceships UK and VrDMotorsport for making it happen. It was truly an experience to remember."
To cap a really great Festival, we are delighted to announce that our partner VrDMotorsport's Team Principal and driver, David Vardy, won the coveted Driver of the Event in the Rally Stage Award. This is even more incredible given that one of the team hit a tree at speed on Friday losing the front bumper, then broke a driveshaft twice which had to be repaired using spare parts and lost a headlight on Sunday!
The award was based on the votes of all the rally stage officials, marshals and commentators in recognition of the driver who best represented everything that rally sport stands for. In presenting the award, the judges commented: "This man epitomises the true spirit of rallying. He was determined to continue, so arrived for his next run with red sticky plaster and tank tape over the gap and painted on his bonnet were the words NEVER QUIT and he did not."
David Vardy was naturally thrilled with his award. "It's been an amazing festival for us and despite all the technical problems to come away with the Driver of the Event award is incredible. It's deserved recognition for our entire team and partners who worked literally through the night to keep us rallying," he said.
He was also pleased to launch the new partnership with Spaceships UK. He added," Very honoured to be working with Spaceships UK. They have an incredible fleet of motorhomes and campervans tailored for any adventure. We're looking forward to working together at lots more exciting rally, superbike and motorsport events."
